On powering your device, you’ll be prompted to set a PIN. Choose a PIN that is not trivial, avoid reusing numbers from your bank or phone. This protects against unauthorized physical access if your device is lost or stolen.
Your device will display 24 words, known as a recovery phrase. Write them down carefully, in the right order, on the recovery sheet provided. Do not photograph, screenshot, or digitize these words. They are the ultimate key to your funds.
Store copies in multiple secure, offline locations. Consider fireproof storage or metal backup plates.
Ledger Live is the official app to manage your assets. Download it from Ledger.com, never from third-party sites. Use it to install apps, check balances, and send or receive assets. Always confirm addresses on your device before approving.
When receiving, generate addresses in Ledger Live and verify them on your device. When sending, review the transaction details on the device screen itself. Only approve if the destination address and amount match your intention.
Ledger devices receive security updates. Apply updates through Ledger Live and never disconnect mid-process. Updates are cryptographically signed by Ledger. Keeping firmware current is essential to your safety.
Experienced users may explore multi-signature wallets, integration with third-party apps, or inheritance planning. These increase resilience but require careful planning and knowledge. Always test setups with small amounts first.
